Major Spoilers for anyone interested in Gears of War 2
This wasn't the original video I planed on posting. Truth is I couldn't find it. It doesn't take away from my post though, if anything this video could be better. It's often that you don't see a lot of story in games these days. Most selling points, Soldier of Fortune as example, put their sales pitch in game features like increased gore and realism. Gaming until recently has not been mostly about story. This I feel like I could say for the first Gears of War. A lot of emphasis was made of the beauty and style of the game's looks. The story was just sort of beginning and had potential but by the end of the game there really wasn't much character development, save maybe learning a few things about Marcus' past.
Gears 2 started out much the same way and I was disheartened at first. It wasn't till a few weeks after my first limited play through that I really started getting into the meat of the game and that's when it swept me away. It may not be the same for everyone, but for me the story started getting real and heavy and by the end I felt pretty touched. They did a lot of things well in this sequel and it showed there really can be great story potential in games. They may even effect us more for our personal stock and hardship in playing within these characters.
